Our Engagement Story
Darrin and I have been together for 3 ½ years. Naturally we have had discussions about getting married and where we are headed. What’s great about our engagement story is that in spite of the fact I knew it was coming, he still managed to take me completely by surprise.
Darrin and I had been to look at rings earlier in the year, I had been sized and we had selected styles we liked. Following the busy Christmas season Darrin, a regular homebody, wanted to stay in for New Year’s. I, on the other hand, pushed that we go out. We decided to go to Niagara Falls for the evening and stay at my sister’s place. Darrin asked that we stop in Hamilton on the way, as our jeweler is there, and, supposedly, they had brought in a diamond for him to “look at”. I agreed and shopped while he “looked at the diamond”.Â
We went on our way to Niagara Falls and started the evening with drinks and a toast to the new year ahead.  It was me who suggested we take a ride on the SkyWheel and catch the view from above the falls.
There at the top he told me he needed to ask me something and reached into his pocket- at this point I figured he was pulling my leg and was about to produce a candy bar or something silly. To my shock he produced an engagement ring and asked me to marry him.
Of course I said “yes” and now we have a great memory of getting engaged 175 feet in the air!
